To The Herter Family, My name is Diane Zuber and my husband Tom. We met Ed at Manor Care Nursing Home after my mom's stroke. She was roommates with Hazel. Ed was such a witty and great conversationalist. We have kept in contact over the last 10 years and we always remember his birthday and we call. We got together to eat right after his 90th at Rose Garden in Elk Grove. Ed and Tom would repeat lines from the movie Fargo which they both loved. When we called his phone this year and it was disconnected I found this website. We are deeply saddened by the belated news but wanted to say if the family gets notified of this entry that Ed was a wonderful person that loved his wife, devoted to being at the nursing home every day. We spend a lot of time in meals with my mom and dad, who was born the same month and year as Ed. I feel a great loss of knowing he's not with us anymore but great hope that we will see him again. God bless you.

We are so sad to hear of Ed's passing. He was a beloved cousin to our mom and visited her faithfully to the end. He was always so kind, funny and interesting....a true gentleman. I'm sure there is a Herter reunion in Heaven. Deepest condolences to Chris, Craig, Virginia and their families.

We were saddened and so surprised to read of Ed's death. He kept in touch with a phone call each Christmas and regularly visited our Mom, his cousin, when she was alive. Many memories of the Villa Park and Addison years and the family reunion picnics in Lombard. Love to the Herter family with our condolences.

Even though we are no longer next door neighbors to Ed, Hazel, Chris and Craig, we still remember the fun times we had together. Ed's witty jokes and tales of life experiences will remain with us. And we shall not forget our hysterical family trip to Macks Cafe at Eds recommendation. Bob and I will miss his periodic phone calls and emails. Rest in peace, Ed,in the care of our loving Father.
