Saying goodbye to Alex today was one of the hardest things I have ever done. To think that I won't hear his cheery Hello Cousin as I walk into his kitchen breaks my heart. Always kind, gentle, loving and wise. I find myself thinking of the questions he asked, the comments he made, the concern in his eyes. I am a better person for having known him, and will miss him terribly.

Rest In Peace dear Alex, Goodbye Cousin, until we meet again.

I loved my Uncle Alex and will miss him dearly. I have many fond childhood memories driving to Schiller Park for summer BBQs, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. My dad and he would trade being barber, and both would tip each other poorly. The fishing trip to Ely, MN, BBQ at Russell's, soft serve ice cream on Irving Park, and the hilarious stories my dad & he told of car pooling to Minuteman, Inc. with Jimmie ("Jimmie, grab the foots")...precious, funny memories. Alex always had more for me though. Out of the blue, he could get serious and profound and make you think. I noticed that a lot more as I got older. He was a great student of culture and the world around him. Later, I knew I was in the big leagues when Alex and George would disappear into the kitchen and deliver me my first hi-ball, wrapped delicately in a napkin. So though I am sad that Alex has left us, I will also celebrate the impact he had on family and friends. Alex was a joy, anyone who was within 3 feet of him could not help but feel better. I always did.

PS- I apologize for not being there to pay my respects personally. I'm unavoidably overseas for 2 weeks.
