I was in Boy Scouts with Daniel and remember his lively spirit, great sense of humor and amazing ambition. Every time I think back on those days, I always picture him as being part of the experience. He was also wonderful at talking about movies. As a film buff, he was one of the first childhood friends to reminisce with me about movies he had just seen (including Clueless- 1995, with Alicia Silverstone. To date, its still one of my favorite comedies. He was the first person to tell me about it. My deepest condolences.

Dear Anita, David, Max and Sarah, We were so shaken to learn that that beautiful young man, Daniel, had died. Memories of his dear, smiling face as a child came flooding back to us, of his sturdy little self, and of those formidable Follmer triplets in general, traipsing with our twins, all five of them, into the restaurant on Broadway and terrifying the waiters! As might have been expected, Daniel obviously grew up to be such a success at the University of Chicago, and to be married.

We just want you to know that we are sharing your grief, and thinking of you. I'm afraid I didn't have a direct email for you. (Mine is [email protected]), but if you feel well enough to get in touch, we hope you will,

With affection, Dinitia and David Nasaw

Daniel was a student intern in the Grinnell College Office of Admission when I -- a Grinnell grad a few years out of college -- was working there as an admission counselor. I remember many hours that he and the other student intern would sit in my office and chat while we were all working on a project or talking about Life After Grinnell. Back then, and in the subsequent years that we ran into each other in Chicago or kept up with each other's lives on social media, he was always inquisitive, funny, and hardworking, and almost relentlessly enthusiastic, positive, and upbeat. Whenever I think of him, I picture him laughing.
