I just learned of Diana's death. I remember her with great fondness. When I joined the staff of the Newberry's Rare Book Room in 1976, she became a mentor and friend. It was through her that I became a supernumerary at the Lyric Opera, fueling my passion for opera. She was a smart, principled, loving colleague and I mourn her passing.

I remember Diana with fondness along with the entire Haskell clan. As a young woman (21 yrs old) I rented the garden apartment from Diana's mom, Eleanor. Diana and Karen lived on the 2nd Floor and Eleanor on the 1st. Back in those days, Logan Square area apartments were inexpensive and a bartender from Ohio could afford to live there even alone. Diana was an inspiration to me, a strong woman with creative talent and an interesting career. I recall all of the Haskell sisters as three of the first educated, independent "grown-up" women I knew and respected. My heart goes out to all of you for the loss of Diana.

My Condolences for both Diana and Karen. My years of volunteering for her at the Newberry Library are not to be forgotten. My friendship with her and Karen continued with luncheons including Ruth Ann. I will miss them.
