Can I talk to One of dons children here? He is one of my top five humans I've ever met!!!! I've got some great stories! He was The best coach ever. I was on varsity and he was the JV coach when I started in 1994. He wasn't my coach but when he was substituting or in charge, he was the man. He would have me diving in, smiling, listening to his words, and not complaining. For some North Shore brats, he had us doing what was right. He could have me doing a 500 fly without complaining Also I taught learn to swim w him. He was in charge. I guess he was my first boss. He had all the Highland Parkers waiting in line for him to torture the three-year-olds and teach them how to swim. He was the best. I miss him. So much. He is one of my top five humans!!!!!!

Coach Davis was a wonderful neighbor to my mother for so many years and was always ready to advise when weeds might be creeping under the fence into his yard. He was a handsome, helpful, good natured and kind man and he will be missed. He is reunited with his beloved Barbara! Thinking of you with love Lori and Karyn. Love, Tina

Don and I were fraternity brothers at the U of I in the late 40s and early 50s. I remember him as an avid sports fan and a skilled baseball player. Always upbeat and optimistic in his outlook.

Sorry I could not know him well in later life.

My thoughts to his family.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me. (Psalm 23)

Coach carried the rod to prod those around him to greatness, and the staff to always herd his flock in the right direction............even his dentist! I was honored to know both sides of him and will never forget his loyalty and kindness.
