I am surprized and quite saddened. I know Eric from high school and Hyde Park in the 1970's. What happened ?
Hello to Mark, his brother, another summer friend, and to Gretchen, his older sister.
My sincere condolences.

Perched cross-legged on a ledge or peering over his glasses or dancing or in song, Eric's spirit

So much, so long ago.
Knew Eric in high school and after.
Habits, perspectives and stories that I picked up from him have been part of me ever since.
They made me a better person.
He made me a better person.

I was President of the Shimer College Alumni Board of which Eric was also a member. It was a pleasure to know Eric. He was always an individual and you never knew what he was going to say but it always was clever and made you think.

We had an alumni reunion at the new Shimer Great Books School at North Central College in late October. Eric and I shared a room. I went back to the room exhausted about 10PM but Eric danced to the end and came back about midnight. Two weeks later he was diagnosed with cancer. We talked on the phone twice afterwards and he still maintained his sly sense of humor. Leave it up to Eric to live life fully to the very end.

He will be greatly missed by all of us.
