A genuinely wonderful and gentle man, a true gentleman. I will miss Ernie greatly. We spoke often about his beloved dog Alfie. We laughed about the complexity of Ernie's new Cadillac. We shared memories of each of our times at Northwestern University (we were both alumni of the school). I send my best wishes to Ernie's and Howard's family and friends.

Just a wonderful man. I got to know Ernie and Howard in New Buffalo and considered them friends. Best car I ever owned was when I purchased their Gold Cadillac after they decided they needed a new one. After Howard passed I always got together with Ernie when he would return from Miami to Union Pier. I will miss our correspondence and knowing he is well in Miami. All the best my friend.

I am so very sorry to hear of Ernie's death. I worked for him in the late 1970s and early 1980s as a court reporter. He was a great boss and friend. I remember many times during busy trials and daily copies that he and Howard would open their home on Chestnut so that we could get sleep and not have to travel home very late at night. He was the best!
