Mr. Clifford

What I remember most, is that white tee shirt he wore each Saturday morning he coached us at our Burnstone little league games. He loved baseball and he loved coaching Michael and I.

But what stands out is he got so involved, and the games meant so much to him that it aggravated his ulcer. He cared that much.

I also remember feeling so welcomed in the Clifford home too. Mr. Clifford treated me like a celebrity sitting at the Clifford kitchen table. And there was this warm enthusiasm in the Clifford house that I will always remember.

Finally, I felt special to Mr. Clifford because he took a special interest in me. And as an adult, when you reflect back on people who had an impact on your life, Mr. Clifford stands out as one of those people for me. From time to time I could retrieve that memory when I needed it.

I'm sorry I didn't keep in better touch and wish you well on your next journey. Maybe there's another baseball game in heaven. As I kneeled in front of your casket and looked at you I thought, I bet there really is baseball in heaven. I imagined you at that game!

Bye Mr. Clifford
