LaVerne and Frank were the best neighbors anyone could hope to have. They were always so kind. They both shared stories about their lives and gave great advice. LaVerne was a comfort, always on the go, but took the time to invite you into her living room for a little gab. She talked a lot about Frank and Lynn and her wonderful grandkids. I am certain all of us have so many wonderful memories, she was such a great vivacious personality, had a great smile, and will be remembered for her warm welcoming heart. God bless LaVerne.

Mrs. Pavel taught my two children. She was a wonderful woman and teacher! It didn't matter how many years after she taught my children if I ran into her she would ask about each of our family members by name. What a memory! Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

We just learned about LaVern's passing here in Arizona. We were so sorry to hear the news. LaVern was a very special lady and friend. We belonged to a group when we lived in Chicago and once a month the group would gather. Our children all grew up together. We will miss her greatly. Our prayers and condolences go out to her family.

There is so much to say about LaVerne and her kindness, sense of humor, boundless energy, her love for her family, friends, and students. Her face would light up when she saw you, and she was always interested in what was going on in your life. When I began teaching at St. Cornelius, she greeted me with such a welcoming spirit. Her generosity was evident. When teachers met to go on an outing or to dinner, it was inevitable that we would run into someone that LaVerne knew, would hug, greet with enthusiasm, and stop for a chat. We began to think she was friends with the whole world. She had the best stories and could always make us laugh. She had a deep devotion to her family and spoke of Frank, Lynne, Jennifer, and Sean with such love and pride. The comments from her students show their sincere love for and gratitude to her. What a lovely person. We are grateful for your friendship. We love you and miss you, LaVerne.

So sorry to hear of LaVerne's passing my prayers are with the family. I met Frank Jr. many years ago and he told me of an opening at St. Cornelius. I interviewed and got the job, that't when I met LaVerne who was so helpful to a first tear teacher. She helped me many times until she retired. She will be missed. She has joined her husband and son in Heaven and will watch over those left behind.

I loved this woman so much. Mrs. Pavel was my 3rd grade teacher '73-'74 and then my 5th grade teacher '75-'76. She was one of the few positive woman role models that I had during my childhood. She was strong, beautiful, loving and shared personal stories with us students. She knew that I lost my sister to SIDS and she shared how she lost her baby, too, and adopted her son, Frank, who would come visit her during school hours, and the look of love on her face whenever she saw him was so moving. She would sternly tease me whenever I showed up to school late, as she knew I lived across the street from school! She would also give me a hard time because, although I always wore my Catholic school uniform, I insisted on always wearing platform shoes. She visited me during my 2-week stay at Resurrection Hospital during 5th grade when I had double pneumonia. God, she was great. She kept gerbils in her classroom, and they would run around the classroom in their plastic gerbil balls. So cute. It is because of that - that I had a gerbil as a pet for many years - and I named my gerbil Mrs. Bubbles Pavel! It is a tragedy that she suffered from Alzheimers during her last years. She was Catholic and loved our school and church (St. Cornelius) and I pray that she is in heaven with those she loved who went before her. God Bless You, Mrs. Pavel.

Mrs. Pavel was my fifth grade teacher at St. Cornelius. She was so kind and honest and genuinely wanted the best for each of her students. To her family, you all meant the world to her and she spoke about you often. She was still teaching when Jennifer was born, and even as a kid, I recall how overjoyed she was to welcome her first grandchild. She was a gift and will be greatly missed.

Ms. Pavel was one of my favorite teachers. My fondest memory of her is having the hiccups in class and she would scare us to stop the hiccups. She truly cared about each student she taught and was just an exemplary teacher. She ran a strict, but fun classroom. I have many memories of hearing her records play during art classes. My deepest sympathies to her family. She was definitely one-of-a-kind.

I was a student of Mrs. Pavel's during the 1970s at St. Cornelius. She was a complete delight in the classroom -- we all enjoyed her so. But she wasn't a push over: When she'd look at you over those eyeglasses, you knew she meant business! While I'm sad to hear of her passing, I hope that she lived a full and happy life. She deserved that, considering the positive influence she had on so many young lives.

BEST TEACHER EVER! I had Mrs. Pavel for 8th grade at St. Mary of the Woods in 1973. She was kind and patient with all of us and had such a great sense of humor. She always appreciated any shenanigans we tried to pull and gently put us in our place. She LOVED to talk about her "Frankie" back then and I am lucky enough to know the person he later married. Lynne, Sean and Jennifer - you were all so good to her and she was lucky to have you, as you were lucky to have her. May she now rest in peace and join both of her beloved Franks.

Laverne was my son's favorite teacher at St. Cornelius and she encouraged Doug in science. My daughter Beth loved her as a teacher and had her as her confirmation sponsor. I loved her as a friend and enjoyed being on the Genesian Guild stage with her. She was a gracious lady who will long be remembered very fondly. It is a comfort to know she is now united with her two Franks. Sincere condolences to her loving family.

To Lynne, Sean, and Jennifer, I am so sorry to hear of Mrs.Pavel's passing, what a truly great person she was. I have many fond memories of her and Frank from our days at St.Tars and Norwood Park. Countless Cubs games she took us to and sleepovers that she never got a wink of sleep because of our shenanigans. I know she was a great mother, mother-in law and grandmother and friend to so many. I know also what a loving daughter-in law and grandchildren she had in you all, for all you did for her after her 2 Frank's passed. May God keep Blessing you all and give you strength all your days.
