Lawrence Hawley Obituary

Born in 1956 in New York City, Larry is survived by brother Edward Hawley, sisters Diane L. and Jacquelin S. Hawley, nephew Justin and nieces Ajah and Chantel. Larry graduated Northwestern University in 1978 and was a lifelong NY Yankee and NU Wildcat fan. At NU he joined Acacia fraternity where he was known as "Hawl." After Graduation he worked at the CBOE for over 25 years until his retirement. Larry had many interests. An original member of the Picked Off softball team, Larry helped them win many league championships. He was an avid sci-fi and comic book fan and attended many Star Trek conventions. He made friends everywhere he went and he will be missed. Per his wishes, there will be a very casual remembrance of him at 3pm Sunday, Sept. 15, at 610 Lincoln, Evanston followed by a reception at Prairie Moon Restaurant, 1502 Sherman Ave., Evanston, IL at 4PM.

My cousin Larry. My fondest memory was of you at Aunt Rita's and Uncle Buddy's house when we were kids. I always loved your laugh and was jealous of your smarts. I am certain you are at home now with other God and other family. Be at peace now cousin. Your many Hawley cousins... will always miss you...Cousin Judy

Hawl "Prince" was a key member of the post 3 clan that ruled the floor of CBOE back in the 80's when I was present. He was a remarkable friend who had a unique personality that only added to our post's vibrant reputation. I organized many outings outside of CBOE during my stay in which we all have many fond memories. I'm only sorry I lost contact with him over the past decades as I (also am suffering with dibetese complications) and may have been able to enlighten him on the degenerative ailments of this disease.

Larry was one of my closest friends while at AKAK and with his sudden passing-I am so glad I did chat with him as few years ago to catch up. His infectious smile-and BOOOMING laugh made him a special friend and fellow to all. He was a gentile gentlemen. "Greetings and Felicitations" was his calling card. Indomitable spirit. I will surely and truly miss him.

I knew Larry when we were both
undergrads, via his Acacia brother
Rich. He was always such a fun and
lively guy. I'm very sad to hear of

Hawl was one of my best buddies when we worked together at the CBOE in the early '80's. We have kept in touch over the years and just had lunch at his favorite Indian restaurant several months ago. He was a good man and a real friend. I am just stunned to hear he is gone and I will miss him.

Larry was a vivid, joyous, larger-than-life presence in our NU D&D games in the late seventies. I was delighted when we reconnected after decades via Facebook and always enjoyed reading what he so selflessly shared about his life and opinions. I'll miss him terribly, but my life is better for having known this wonderful man.

Larry was a very good friend of mine at CBOE. I have know him for 30 years as a wonderful co-worker and friend. Since he had left the job, we formed a lunch group just to get together with him and enjoy an hour together every other month or two. Larry's booming laugh would echo through the room. I miss him already. I think of him often and I cant get over the fact that he is gone. He will always be in a special place in my heart.

Larry I will miss our group lunches. I will miss having you correct my grammar and punctuation. I also thank you for forcing me to use my apostrophes correctly. I will miss your booming laughter, and your wit. I will miss your strong sense of justice, and your "Hangin' Judge" verdicts. Mostly, I will just miss you.
