I had thought about Mary Ellen in the last few years, wondering how she was doing. I shared an office with her at Thresholds from 1994 to 1995, as I completed my second year internship in social work through Loyola University. Although she was not my official mentor, she was quite supportive and encouraging. she provided additional information about how to assist others and provide them with a sense of dignity. I was new to the field and her support was very much appreciated. She was thoughtful enough to call me when she was ready to retire, to discuss my progress over the years and to offer a letter of recommendation. I am sorry for your loss, but I hope that my words provide some comfort at this time.

May you find a measure of comfort for the loss of your loved on in the words at Isa. 61:1,2

Mary Ellen was one of the most joyful and creative people I had the pleasure to work and be friends with. Bill and I will miss those blueberry adventures in Michigan where she and you, Bob, made everything fun.
