Gloria Bernardi Obituary

Gloria E. Bernardi nee Dal Ponte, age 90, passed into eternal life on Friday, November 3rd at her home in Orland Park surrounded by her beloved family. Born in Negaunee, Michigan of March 15, 1927, the last of 6 children born to Maria and John Dal Ponte. Devoted mother of Deborah (Jan Zajac) Bernardi-Zajac, John Bernardi and Michael (Roberta) Bernardi. Loving grandmother of Philip, Blaise, Bryce, Rebecca and Nicole Bernardi. Sister of the late Rose Willich, Tino Dal Ponte, Anna Warnauskas, Mary Slaviero, and Rena Montville. Dear aunt to the related Dal Ponte, Bernardi and Danahey families. Mother-in-law of Connie Lange Bernardi. Raised in Chicago's Roseland neighborhood, she graduated from St. Anthony Grammar School and attended Fenger H.S. She married Bruno Bernardi November 7, 1948, and for many years worked in the family business, Bernardi's Pullman Wine & Liquors in Roseland. Gloria was well known and loved by her family and countless friends. She realized the fullness of her life as she watched her five grandchildren grow; they were the light of her life. The family clamored for her home-made ravioli, gnocchi, grustalli cookies and special mushroom dish for holiday dinners. Gloria truly enjoyed meeting people and the company of friends, who all took to her friendship, kindness and strength. Gloria lived a full and rich life; she will be missed by all fortunate enough to have known her. A memorial mass in celebration of Gloria's life will be held Saturday morning Nov. 11th, 11:00 AM at St. Stephen Deacon & Martyr Church, 17500 S. 84th Ave., Tinley Park. A reception will follow.
