Donald Manarik of Naples, Florida passed away on October 11, 2017. Born June 7, 1930, he was a past longtime resident of Chicago and Grayslake, IL. He proudly served in the U.S. army during the Korean War. He was a long time employee of Harris Bank in downtown Chicago until his retirement. He then took his passion for the Cubs, Bears and all things Chicago to Naples, FL where he happily made his home for the past 25 years. He will be remembered for many things but above all for his love, generosity, kindness, patience and quiet strength. Don is survived by the light of his life, his wife of 35 years, Melvina (nee Bednarz) and his beloved children: sons James (Susan) Manarik of West Palm Beach, FL; Gerald (Jane) Manarik of Ingleside, IL; John (Margarita) Manarik of Silver Lake, WI; and daughter Joanne Manarik of Grayslake, IL. He also leaves treasured grandchildren: Joseph, Edward, Gregory and Jonathan Manarik; Alia (Andrew) Strandt; Selina and Craig Manarik; Stefani and Nicole Alvarez; and great-grandchildren Camden and Sarah Manarik. He was blessed to share Melvina's family who he also cherished. "Papa Don" is survived by: Rick (Marilyn) Havlick; Edward (Elaine) Kajor; grandchildren Dr. John (Melodie) Havlick; Mary (Joseph) Young; Janet (Brad) McKay; Joseph Kajor; and great-grandchildren Andrew and Madeline Havlick; and Sophie and Leonidas McKay. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank Manarik and Florence Ranberg and his dear brother Ken (Lois) Manarik. He was a fond uncle and friend to many. In lieu of flowers, a prayer and a kind word was his wish. Cremation was private. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
