I just learned of Yvonne's death, and wish I had seen her in recent years!
She was an inspiring, warm, smart, selfless woman whom I met when my husband and I first moved to Evanston. She and her dear friend, Anna, were generous women, given to making the world a better place. She always donated to the non profit youth employment center I founded, and left a gift
for it when she died, by which I am very touched. My sympathy to her family, Anna, and the many people who knew and loved her.

Yvonne was an incredible mentor for me, and I am very sad that I didn't reach out to her in the last few years. She set me on the path of trying to solve problems and help people in the most local way possible.

Her presence is felt every day in my neighborhood, and I wish she had known that the work she started so many years ago has finally born fruit in that our neighborhood park where she worked so hard for both inclusion and against crime has become a safe space for children and families.

My thoughts are with Anna and Yvonne's family.

Yvonne was an inspiration to me and, I'm sure, to all who knew her. I am several decades her junior and she was an early example of people who were even busier after retirement. For about ten years, we were a team of head cooks responsible for one Sunday dinner/month at an Evanston homeless shelter. Not only was she a good cook, she was a frugal one--except at the holidays when she reached into her own pocket to supplement our allowance for perishable groceries to provide a roast beef dinner. She was a listening ear for me and for the other volunteers (often NU students) and was equally respectful of all of our diners. This was just one of her volunteer efforts, in addition to work on Evanston civic life, baking for friends and family and fundraisers, etc. The world is a poorer place without her.
