Cecil Henry Hewlett
WAVERLY: Cecil Henry Hewlett, 75, died May 22, 2017 as the result of an automobile accident.
Cecil was born on September 26, 1941, in Belfry, Kentucky, to Cecil and Myrtle (Farley) Hewlett. On December 19, 1964, he was united in marriage to his lifelong love, Carolyn Sparks, who survives.
Also surviving are his daughter, Kim (Mark) Swepston and his granddaughter, Sheridan McLean, all of Waverly, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Myrtle Hewlett; two brothers, Kenneth and William "Bill" Hewlett; a sister-in-law, Barbara (Kenneth) Hewlett; and a nephew, Mark Hewlett.
Cecil was a graduate of Louisa High School and Morehead State University. After teaching for his first four years in Louisa, Kentucky, he continued his career for another twenty-nine years in Waverly City Schools. It was there that Cecil touched the lives of thousands of students, parents and athletes through his teaching and coaching in the area. Following his retirement in May 1996, Cecil continued to be actively involved in local tennis and filled his time refinishing antique furniture. Those who knew Cecil best, knew that he had very diverse knowledge and that he was always ready with a story about his former "coaching days" or his favorite basketball team, the Kentucky Wildcats. Above all, Cecil will be most remembered for his love and devotion to his family, who were the light in his life. His constant support will be greatly missed and can never be replaced.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Tick Ridge Cemetery, Olive Hill, Kentucky with Rev. Richard Short, officiating.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2017 at the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer, 660 Ackerman Road, 6th Floor, P.O. Box 183112, Columbus, Ohio 43218-3112.
