I am sad to say that I only learned of Mr. Mickey's passing today. Mr. Mickey was my high school basketball coach at U school in Bloomington, Indiana in 1968 and 69. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have experienced this man's leadership and guidance in my early years. He had a huge influence on my life. I only wish I had taken the time to find him and tell him while he was still alive. I am sure he had the same affect on thousands of other kids like me during his long and illustrious career. I am sure his kids are very proud of him and miss him very much. What a great man!!!

As a young junior high school student at University School, Mr. Mickey identified my talent, took an interest in me and pushed me to be better, to play up to my potential but in an unselfish way, a way that made my team better. He taught me play above the fray - the name calling and other things that happened playing in small towns around Bloomington. Those lessons, more than about basketball, stayed with me. I was blessed to have him mentor me for 2 1/2 years before my family moved to California. He was always kind, always generous, carried himself and dealt with others in a dignified manner. Outside of my family he was the first real role model I had.
It is no surprise to see all the things he did and accomplished with his life....and many, many, many of us are all the better for it and him.

May he rest in peace with the Lord.

I was sorry to learn of the passing of Dr. Mickey. I did not know him personally while we were students at Indiana University. However, I admired demeanor and skills on the basketball court. It is obvious that he went to do much to help others and be a credit to Indiana University.
