Thelma I. Smith
WAVERLY : Thelma I. Smith, 84, of Waverly, went to heaven 8:15 a.m. Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
She was born January 7, 1932, in Ross County, to the late Arthur and Florence Sharp Hammond.
Surviving are children, Gary Lee (Pamela) Smith, Linda (Roger French) Smith, Cathy Underwood, all of Chillicothe; Emile (Bob McElhaney) Hazelbaker, of Botkins, OH, Freda (Buddy Johnson) Cunningham, of Waverly with whom she lived and daughter-in-law, Jean Smith, of Chillicothe; brother, Rocky Hammond, of Chillicothe; sisters, Naomi Woods, of Chillicothe, Joyce (Martin) Herrle and Carol (Ron) Yates, both of North Carolina. She was predeceased by a daughter, Brenda Smith; a son, Greg Smith; brothers, Clyde, Lloyd, and Alton Hammond; and granddaughter, Carrie Galloway.
Thelma was a member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ in Christian Union. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, who loved the Lord with all her heart. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ in Christian Union with Pastor Mark Clendaniel officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Ware Funeral Home.
