Dear Family of Ms. Toni Morrison:

I would like to reach out to all of you during this very difficult time. Toni was a very gifted writer. And she will truly be missed by all those people whose paths that she had crossed. You should all be very proud of her. There will never be another Toni Morrison. She was one of a kind. I am also a writer.

I am also a 43 year member of Sixth Grace Presbyterian Church, 600 East 35th Street, Chicago, Illinois 60616. The Reverend Dr. David B. Thornton is the Pastor, The Moderator of The Session, and The Head of the Staff. He is not only my Pastor, but My Mentor, Teacher, and Spiritual Advisor as well. Reverend Donald B. Register is The Pastor Emeritus.

I am also a Very Proud Former Member of Church Musician Ship Guild, Inc. (1988-2008). The late Dr. Mildred G. Lewis was The Founder, and Executive Director. I was their Administrative Assistant, Executive Secretary, and Public Relations Director.
My 20 years with this wonderful organization, had helped me to develop many skills. I am very glad that God placed me with this organization. I came to them in the year of 1987, and I joined in the year of 1988. I was about 29, or 30 years old at the time.

I know that I am single, but God is The Head of my life. And I am able to "WORK BEHIND THE SCENES" TO HELP MY PASTOR, AND MY CHURCH HOME. AND I HAVE NO REGRETS. I HAVE MANY SKILLS WHICH I AM GRATEFUL TO GOD FOR. SOMEONE SAID TO PUT GOD FIRST, AND EVERYTHING ELSE WILL FALL INTO PLACE. AND I HAVE. I AM NOT EVEN 63 YEARS OLD YET. I AM 62 YEARS OLD.

I will continue to pray for all of you. ALL I CAN SAY IS "WELL DONE THY GOOD, AND FAITHFUL SERVANT", MATTHEW 25:21, AND "REST IN PEACE, SISTER TONI". WITH MY HEARTFELT SYMPATHY, MS. VALINDA DARLENE JONES, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO. I HOPE THAT I DON'T HAVE TO MOVE AGAIN. I USE TO LIVE IN IDA B. WELLS IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. AND I WORKED AS A CHURCH SECRETARY AT MY CHURCH HOME SIXTH GRACE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN THE YEARS OF 1983-1990, AND AT WEST POINT MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH. I DO HAVE COMPUTER SKILLS.

Toni Morrison gave me the gift of song in every novel she wrote. Even her essays revealed a lyric sense of justice. I am inconsolable at her passing. Long live the Queen. Long live Toni Morrison

Toni Morrison thank you for words that inspire and the high flights of sheer poetry that your writing provides. One of my favorite books of your is Jazz. That book moved me in so many ways and the way that New York City became a character in this novel is astounding. You and your work will always be appreciated.

I learned everything I needed to know about what hinders and what supports an African American woman when I read The Bluest Eye. Toni became one of my "Mothers-in-Literature," the first of a group that would include Gwendolyn Brooks, Mary Helen Washington, Ntozake Shange, Isabel Allende and others. She created a thirst in me to learn everything about my black heritage. I read male and female authors, history anthologies, and took African American cultural classes in college, eventually becoming a teacher of history and literature myself.

This loss is one so profound that we will not even fully grasp it until years later. We are losing so many of our major, positive voices in the arts and humanities, with few children being encouraged to follow. A black college student once asked, "What is jazz?"

Let her entry into the eternal sleep remind those of us alive of the need to "Stay Woke."

We love you Toni. We already miss you.

If anyone learns of a ceremony or a memorial service, let us all know. She should not disappear into the night, without observance. Unless she requested that departure.
