2017
Shortly after 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 10th, 2017, Normand Pierre Fournier took his last breath in the emergency Department of the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and his lover of 54 years, Hermine Fournier. Normand was born in Rimouski Quebec on August 21st 1939. He was the only son of the late Thuribe Pierre Fournier and Simone (Lizotte) Fournier, and brother of the late Collette Plourde (Jean-Eude) of Hearst, Ontario. Having spent his childhood in Northern Quebec, at the age of 21, he made his way to Northern Ontario with his family to begin a new life as pioneers of the great North. He worked in the lumber industry briefly in Hearst, on construction throughout Southern Ontario then opened his own tire business in Hearst in the early 70's. In 1962 he met the woman of his dreams, the beautiful, tall, blue eyed, brunette Hermine and married her 9 months later for what would prove to be lifelong, inspiring love affair. Together, they had three children, Gaetan (Maria Bossio), Rose-Anne (Frederick Howe), and Isabelle (Maurice Belmore) and five grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Andrew, Zowie, and Austin. After closing his business in the 80's, he moved his family to Thunder Bay and made it his last home. Normand was known for his practical jokes and pranks as a young man and he is remembered for his kind, generous heart. He taught his children to be humanitarians and to always be on the side of justice. He often provided food support to those in need, visited the sick and he was a minister of Holy Communion at Corpus Christi Church for many years. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus (4th degree) until his health prohibited it. He was active in the Cursillo and Marriage Encounter movements. Normand had three great priorities in life - his God, his wife, and his family. He lived only for them and devoted his life to their happiness and their well-being. This world and all the people he touched are a little better because of his presence. Funeral services will be held at Corpus Christi Church, Thunder Bay Ontario, at 10 a.m., Friday December 15th 2017. Flowers can be sent to the church through Vaillant Florist 807-345-4245 Donations in memory of Normand are encouraged to the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society, 1535 Rosslyn Road, Thunder Bay, ON P7E 6W2 or Doctors Without Borders Canada, 551 Adelaide Street West, Toronto ON M5V 0N8.
