I think of you, Barb, every year on your birthday, August 9. And on mine in November. We spent many birthdays together. I miss you.

I remember how much Barbara was loved by both her parents. An only child, like me, Barb was possibly even more spoiled. I can recall her sitting in the living room, and calling out to her mom, "Mommy, bring me a coke." She got one. :) And I recall her dad loved to tease her. In the summers her parents would always take her, and me, plus maybe one more of our close friends, to Mike Linnig's for dinner. We'd always eat outside in one of the little "cabins" by the river. Barb always ordered frog legs. Her dad would say, "Ya, know don't you, that when they go into the hot skillet, they dance around?" Her response invariably was, "Oh, Dad-dy!", as only Barb could say it. And she would giggle. I also remember our long conversations on the phone. We loved to go shopping, and before a shopping trip to downtown Louisville, we'd always talk at length about what we would wear. Then my parents would take me to her house, and we would catch the Chestnut Street bus by the Rouben's Pharmacy, near her house on Vermont St., and head downtown to spend a Saturday, shopping at Selman's, Stewart's, Byck's and Bacon's. Then it was back to Walnut St., next to Selman's to catch the bus back home to Barb's house. We thought we were "IT." LOL. I miss her laugh.

Barbara Lehmenkuler was one of my best friends ever. We became friends in 7th grade, and were very close for years. I hadn't seen her since graduation from UofL in '69, and had lost track of her because I couldn't recall her married name. Finally we reconnected in 2018, and were able to get together several times. I was so thankful. She and Chuck took me to dinner and a UofL game, and Barb and I had lunch several times. This is the kind of friend she was - when she found out that I was alone last Thanksgiving, she invited me to her family's dinner in 2020. Barb, I'll never forget your smile. LOVE, Suzanne
