Hello to Ila's children and grandchildren. Your mother and I taught at Sycamore High School for many years together in the Social Studies Department. We all LOVED Ila.....she just was what she was....a unique, loving person. I coordinated trips to Europe and Ila wanted to go, so I took her. My favorite memory of that trip was when Ila would not go to bed on the overnight train. She stood at the window in the hallway the whole night b/c she wanted to watch the landscape as we passed. I am sorry to hear that she is gone but I know she was our Ila and she influenced a lot of students. Peace to you all. Would you let me know when you have a remembrance and the Sycamore people would like to know as well.. Marilyn Ray ([email protected])

I worked with Ila at Sycamore high school as a co-teacher for World History. She was an active and supportive member and helper of Sycamore High School's Black Student Union (which is no longer held at Sycamore High School). She was a valued member of the Sycamore Community. More than anything, she was my friend. I will miss you Ila. Rest in peace my friend.

Ila was a treasured friend and i truly enjoyed teaching with her at Sycamore High School. She was genuinely concerned with helping all of her students and always did everything in her power to make their educational experience enjoyable and successful. She was an inspiration to all and will truly be missed.

Such a blessing for you all to have shared so many years and memories with her. May God provide the needed comfort during your time of grief.
