Final Sunrise

We can't see them clearly but know they're there
hidden in pre-dawn dark, just black silhouettes,
that border the ridgeline in crisp autumn air.

We know what they look like when daylight finds
their Joseph coats of many bright colors
as they unbind from a solid black mass.

We can't see it clearly but know it's there
secreted in early morning gloom, just a rush, a gurgle,
it flows on, as for centuries, to leviathan's lair.

We know what it looks like when daylight finds
its surface, ripples scattering light rays in profusion
as it grinds bank and rocks that confine.

We can't see them now but know they're there
gone from our sight for the rest of our days on earth
free from worry and pain, in our Creator's care.

We'll know what they look like when final sunrise finds
all of saved humanity in spirit gathered together,
for eternity where love of God and each other intertwines.
