Susan D. Volz

Blue Ash - Susan Davison (nee Cocks) Volz, age 75, passed away at her home in Blue Ash, Ohio on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021. She was born June 13, 1945 in Oceanside, Long Island, New York to the late Richard E. and Cathryne (nee Britt) Cocks.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 53 years, Gary B. Volz; daughter, Betsy Bushman (fiancé, David Haley); son, David Volz (wife, Jodi); grandchildren, Cooper and Carson Bushman, Paiten and Madilyn Volz; brother, Richard E. Cocks, Jr.; along with many cherished relatives and good friends. In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her sister, Amanda Thomas Kramer.

Sue graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1967 with a degree in Elementary Education, and initially worked as an elementary teacher, and later as a preschool teacher. She chose to become a full-time wife, mother, and homemaker, completely devoted to her family, and adored being "Nanny" to her beloved grandchildren. Sue was a talented artist, with her paintings and other art work given to numerous friends and family. Her organizational talent allowed her to plan and host countless gatherings for family and friends. She served as a volunteer with Hospice and Meals on Wheels. Sue was a natural athlete and enjoyed being a competitive tennis player and playing golf with friends. Gary said that he became a better person by being married to the love of his life.

Over the past decade, Sue fought tirelessly to overcome a very rare form of appendiceal cancer. She sought out the best medical care and found it at MD Anderson Cancer Research Center under the care of Dr. Richard Royal. As a result, Sue and Gary would appreciate memorial contributions in her memory to MD Anderson Cancer Center, c/o Dr. Keith Fournier, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-5841. Online donations may be made through their website www.gifts.mdanderson.org. or to an organization of your choice. Sue and Gary would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Hospice of Cincinnati, MD Anderson, Christ and TriHealth Hospitals for their professional care.

Visitation will be 9-11 AM, Friday, April 9, 2021 at Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home, 10211 Plainfield Rd, Cincinnati, Ohio 45241. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM immediately following the visitation at the funeral home. Entombment will follow the service at Arlington Memorial Gardens. I met Sue 25 years ago playing tennis at Queen City Racquet Club. After that, we played golf together. She was always smiling and very pleasant. I am so very sorry to hear of her passing. The family has my deepest sympathy.

She was a wonderful friend. I think of all the laughter we had having lunch and then playing cards. Sometimes we laughed so hard the 4 of us had tears. Sue, you will be missed!
