Earl Walls Obituary

Walls

Earl is survived by son, Greg, his wife, Nikki, and their two daughters, Jet and Lauren, all of Houston. His youngest sister, Marlene Vercheak, still resides in Villa Hills, Kentucky. He is preceded by his wife of 34 years, Diane Fawcett Walls and her son, Jefry Riggs Walls.

Born to parents, Newell Walls and Iva Mae Todd on March 14,1932 in Waynesburg, Kentucky, Earl was the first of nine children. Upon graduation from Dixie Heights High School, Earl enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After his time in the service, Earl enrolled at the University of Kentucky where he graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree. Later that year, he started work with the Travelers Insurance Company where he remained for the next 41 years. Early in his career, when was given the opportunity to transfer to Texas, Earl happily accepted, and eventually met Diane Fawcett on a double date. Earl and Diane married in 1966 and remained together until her passing in 2001.

In the early years of retirement, Earl spent his time playing golf, following his granddaughters to as many events as he could attend, and mastering the art of spoiling his beloved dog, Belle. He also focused on the things that mattered most to him which were family, friends and faith, with some University of Kentucky basketball sprinkled in. Earl was a member of Champions Forest Church, and he also volunteered his time at the Northwest Assistance Ministries ("NAM"). He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.

A funeral service celebrating Earl's life and faith will take place on January 13, 2018 at 10:00 am at Klein Funeral Home/Champions. All are welcome to attend. He will be buried in a private ceremony.

Joyce and I both worked with Earl at Travelers. Earl was the consummate insurance professional. He knew more about underwriting than anyone. Earl paved the way for the next generation by a willingness to share his knowledge and counsel others.

Earl and I carpooled during the early 1980's. Invariably our conversation revolved around sports. Topics often included Greg's baseball games and college basketball. A big smile would light up on Earl's face when the discussion involved his beloved Kentucky Wildcats. UK lost an avid fan!

Earl provided free advice on home and car maintenance. After visiting his home in Champions, I soon realized his real area of expertise was grounds keeping. His lawn was immaculate, and there wasn't a single pine needle on the driveway. He had the magic touch!

Joyce and I are both remorseful we weren't able to attend Earl's service. My heart goes out to the immediate family. Earl will be missed immensely.

We were shocked and saddened to hear about Earl's passing. Our sincere condolences. We met Earl when we would have breakfast on Saturday morning at Kroger. He was such a character and always had a joke from the newspaper to share with us. We will miss him very much! I am sure sales of shrimp will go down at Kroger now that he is not there to buy his shrimp for dinner every Saturday. Please know that you are in our prayers.
