Glenna Cunningham Smith

Asheville - Glenna Cunningham Smith, 78, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2018.

Glenna was a native of Asheville and a daughter of the late Randell and Julia Woodruff Cunningham. She attended Stephens-Lee High School and was a member of the Class of 1957.

She was a faithful member of Nazareth First Missionary Baptist Church and served as a founding member of the Voices of Nazareth, Hospitality Committee and personally decorated the church for all occasions. She attended Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church in the later years.

Glenna was a caterer for many community events. She was formerly employed with Buck's Restaurant, Sheraton and Hilton Hotels and the Asheville City Schools.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Smith; son, Roderick Cunningham; sister, Ruth Lomax; brothers, Johnny, Randell Jr., James and Robert Cunningham.

Surviving family includes her children, Regina Garrett, Clarence Miller, Rose Mills, and Kim Waters (Darnel); sisters, Gladys Jackson, Harriet King; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Cunningham, Henrietta Cunningham and Nancy Cunningham. 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 1 PM Wednesday, Nazareth First Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Charles R. Mosley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery.
