Dear John & Jane, What fond memories I have of my parents' friendship with yours. It was easy to see why they were copacetic. Your mom was kind & warm & your dad was witty & generous-an unbeatable combo. They graced all our lives, & I share your loss. Fondly, Jane Thurlow Ferdon

I am sorry for the loss of your loved one. May fond memories and the promise of life at Hosea 13:14 "From the grave I will redeem them. From death I will recover them." help to comfort your hearts and cushion your grief. My sympathy and condolence to all the family.

Hi John and Jane,
I had the pleasure of knowing Joe and Helen during the time they lived in Highlands. I also worked closely with Joe when he served as a Director of the Highlands-Cashiers Hospital. His tenure encompassed the time when we were dreaming, planning, raising funds for, interviewing and selecting Architects, and ultimately constructing a new replacement hospital to serve the communities of Highlands and Cashiers. Joe was an integral part of all of this and provided valuable guidance to us during this project.
Of note, as closely as I worked with Joe, I knew he taught architecture at NC State and retired from a firm in Atlanta. I had no idea of his most impressive credentials and accomplishments throughout his life. But knowing Joe as I did, I'm not surprised. In his quiet unassuming way, Joe was helping the hospital and that is all that mattered to him. We all knew he was very capable, but didn't realize what a truly valuable resource he was until I read his obituary. We all benefited greatly by his service to the hospital.

I was a student of Joe's as we called him in the 60's at NC State School of Design and am sorry to hear of his death. It's been years but later I met John who told me of his life since. He was a fine man and it's good you have been a close and supportive family. His obituary brought back good memories.
