Sincere sympathy for your loss. Rita was a special person. I will always remember our winter visits when Don and I would travel West. Although short visits, each one was meaningful to us. You and Rita were always welcoming and made us comfortable. Most of all her hugs 'hello' and/or 'goodbye' were a genuine feeling of love. Ed, may you and family find comfort and peace in all your wonderful memories. Love, hugs, prayers to all. MI Cuz, Bernice P.S.Watching her memorial mass on line was a blessing.

Dana, your mom was a joy to be around! I loved sitting next to her at ball games, listening to her commentary, giggling when she got fired up at the umps, and seeing her love on you guys. Man, she loved y’all! Our Team Grandma will be so missed. Love you guys and praying for God’s comfort.

I'm sorry to hear of Rita's death. I worked with Rita years ago at the Menninger Clinic and found Rita to be amazing. She knew so much and did not mind teaching newer staff about various ins and outs of administration. Once I got to know her a bit, I found she had a warm sense of humor and and was extremely compassionate. She will be missed by many people I'm sure.

We were saddened to read of Rita's death. I was always happy to get a nice big smile and greeting from her when I was in the Legislature. The mood was tense at times, but Rita still continued with her cheery greeting. She was a very nice person. The rosary that I say today will be for Rita. My wife Sue, joins me in extending our sympathy to your family.

I worked with Rita between 1975 and 1995. While she loved her job at Menninger in Topeka, she loved her husband and her young daughters, more. She always talked about them and they were the center of her life. I am glad I got to know her.

Rita was a wonderfully influential member of the Menninger community. Her considerable competence, common sense and a gift for saying what needed to be said in simple, clear and easy to understand ways engaged and encouraged us each and all to be and do just what was needed. She helped us become the caring community we were for all who sought our help. We knew we could rely on her and she trusted us to do what was needed. We all deeply appreciated her and now celebrate her contributions to our loving and collaborative Menninger community. Thanks to her we had the community we all treasured.

Rita was a cherished member of the Mailen family. She was instrumental in planning and conducting several annual family reunions in my home, at the nearby picnic shelter on the Catholic church property, and at one of the local restaurants. She was a gracious, caring lady that will be missed by the family.

There isn't a space long enough to say all that could be said about Rita. She always made everyone feel so special and loved. She reached out and drew her Michigan family in and I will never forget her. She had the light of Christ in her and that is why everyone around her felt so loved. I hope someday to meet her daughters and grandchildren....she loved them so. God be with you Ed (and I know He is!) We will be watching the beautiful mass online. We dearly loved Rita and love you too Ed. You will continue to be in our prayers in the days ahead. Much love and God's peace! Bill and Judy Kohn
