Jackson - Funeral services for Carla Marie Barnes Camp of Jackson will be held Wednesday, May 12, at 2 p.m. at St. James' Episcopal Church, 3921 Oak Ridge Dr., Jackson, MS. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery, Madison, MS.

Mrs. Camp passed away Friday, May 7, at St. Dominic Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents Silas "Si" Herston Barnes and Mary Ellen McWhorter Barnes. She is survived by her husband of 45 years Barry R. Camp; sons, Hunter Camp of Jackson and Parker B. Camp of Lauderdale County, MS; a sister, Lisa Claire Barnes Byron (David) of Jackson; nieces, Lisa Marie "Ree Ree" Byron of Brandon and Mary Morgan Byron Thomas (Josh) of Brandon; and a great niece Molly Thomas of Brandon.

Carla was a 1963 graduate of Murrah High School and a 1967 graduate of Mississippi State College for Women where she majored in elementary education and was a member of the Lockhearts social club and was an SCA Big Sister, senior class MEH Lady representative, and a member of the Civic League Council, social committee, Stunt Night committee and Student Mississippi Education Association.

After graduation, she was an elementary school teacher in the Cobb County, GA, school system at Mableton and at Smyrna's Argyle Elementary. After returning to Jackson, she worked in public relations for the City of Jackson and as an organizer of fund-raising events for the Mississippi Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She later returned to teaching in the Jackson Public School system at Hardy Middle School and Spann Elementary. After retiring from JPS, she was a substitute teacher for various schools in Jackson and surrounding cities.

The family extends special thanks and appreciation to the staff of Fresenius Kidney Care central dialysis center of Jackson, AMR, and to the doctors and nurses at St. Dominic Hospital. Memorials may be made to the Heart Association, Kidney Foundation, Diabetes Foundation, or animal rescue organizations.
