Flora - 4/18/1950 - 6/7/2018 Cornelia Childress Caldwell (Connie), 68, of Flora, Mississippi, passed away on 6/7/2018 at Baptist Hospice, Jackson, MS, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born 4/18/1950 in Canton, Mississippi to John R. and Virginia H. Childress.She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Stephen J. Caldwell of Flora, MS, children Stephen B. Caldwell of Houston, TX, John G. Caldwell of Portland, OR, Eric R. Caldwell of Arlington, TX, Christopher R. Caldwell of Lone Tree, CO, Catherine C. Will of Lone Tree, CO, her father John R. Childress of Flora, MS, brothers John R. Childress of Jacksonville, FL, Henry H. Childress of Flora, MS, and eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by her mother Virginia H. Childress.Connie attended Flora High School, and was active in athletics and band. She was a forward on the 1968 Capital Area Conference, Southern Region championship basketball team, scoring 40 points in one game. She attended Millsaps College, going on to earn a BS in Education from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1972, scoring above the 95th percentile on the National Teacher's Exam. She also earned a BA in Special Education from Louisiana State University. She was an extraordinary public school educator for 10 years in the Baton Rouge, Lousiana, and 10 years in Midland, Michigan. Her passion for teaching ranged from underprivileged inner city elementary schools, to gifted and talented programs, to emotionally impaired middle school students.Connie was a strong, loving, dedicated wife, mother, and friend. She inspired those qualities in her family and friends.
A memorial service of her life will be celebrated at a later date.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to family and friends for the lost of their beloved Cornelia. I hope the promise at John 6:39 can bring real comfort. Knowing that there is hope for our lost love ones can be reassuring.
