Janet Wicker

Clinton - The world lost a beloved Southern lady on January 9, 2021. Janet Spell Wicker was called home to Heaven after a long full life of love and laughter. Janet was born in 1945 to Esta and James Spell of Canton. She graduated from Clinton High School, as the Friendliest member of the senior class, attended Mississippi College for a bit, then married Charles Wicker, of Louisville, in 1964. Janet's love of animals and adventure began in childhood and continued right on into adulthood, cats named Kitty being her pet of choice. If you were lucky enough to be her friend, you were loved unconditionally and always welcome at the table for coffee, even if sometimes you had to avoid the fishing jigs she used to tie. She shared her love and care with the children she baby sat when her own children were small, then shared it with CHS students as the assistant librarian, then with all of her many customers as a barber/stylist in Clinton. Janet "did hair" for more than thirty years before she closed her shop, Janet's Impressions. Janet is survived by her husband Charlie, children Wanda (Randy) Pearcy of Madison, and Chuck Wicker of Oxford, 5 grandchildren Sarah and Mary Beth Pearcy, Ryan Wicker, Megan (Tyler) Johnson, and Brett Wicker, and three great-grandchildren Kendall, Karsyn and Karter Johnson. She is also survived by her precious Aunt Mary Ann Hatten of Jackson. Janet was a 50+ year member of First Baptist Church of Clinton. Services will be held there on Wednesday, January 13, at 3:00 pm. with visitation beginning at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to CARA, 960 N. Flag Chapel Road, Jackson, MS 39209.

Janet was a beautiful soul that loved fiercely. She taught me more than I could ever express. You will be missed deeply.

I will never be the same without my Nanna. She taught me so much throughout my life but she never taught me how to live in a world without her in it. I will miss her more than words can express.

Mrs. Wicker was always such a nice person. She cut my hair for years at her shop. She always talked so highly of all of her family. She was very proud of the grandkids. She will be missed.

Growing up “around the corner” from the Wickers, I spent a bunch of time at their house. When I close my eyes, I can still see Mrs. Wicker, Wanda, and I sitting around the island in the kitchen talking. Thank you for sharing your love and laughter with me all those years ago!

To the Family: I am sending prayers and hugs your way! I truly wish I could make the journey from GA to join you, but as you know, life gets in the way. I am sending a memorial to CARA to honor Mrs. Wicker’s and her Kittys’. Hopefully, we can continue the legacy of caring for the furbabies!
Love you guys!
