Karen,
Sorry I was not able to be with you and your sons today. Karl will be missed by me and our team at Chemical. When he joined us at Talmer in 2013 I had no idea what an important leader he would turn out to be for our company. We were growing fast and had many cultures in the company because of the acquisitions and new hires. Our credit world had become contentious with various leaders trying to assert their way of thinking. When Karl accepted the position of Chief Credit Officer he immediately created a calming effect on our teams. He was a great listener. Ultimately he had to make the final decision many times. His decisions were respected because of the clear thought process he used to explain how to best deal with the situation. Simply, we all respected Karl.

Karl's passing is a deep loss for everyone who had come to know him in any capacity. He was brilliant, genuine, quick witted, level headed and filled with integrity. Certainly, there are not enough words to describe what a true gentleman he was. Karl was a trusted colleague who could be counted on for excellent advice and always a chuckle. He was a natural leader who was beloved by all and is already missed.

A ray of sunshine was lost with Karl's passing. My heartfelt condolences to Karen, Stephen and Peter. I will always remember how Karl's eyes would light up whenever he spoke about his family. You three meant the world to him.

I worked with, or for, Karl for many years and counted him as a dear friend, trusted colleague, as well as a mentor. His advice and counsel was always thoughtful and balanced while his wit and infectious laughter kept any situation more upbeat'. Karl will always be remembered fondly by me.
