74 of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and Boca Raton, Florida, entered eternal life on October 6, 2019. Born to the late Mary and Theodore Classen, D.O., Roger followed his father's footsteps and graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1972. His vocation was to be a healer in all aspects of his life, caring for his patients as if they were his own family. He radiated love, compassion and gentleness towards everyone he met and was relentless in his pursuit of helping others. He will be remembered as a kind- hearted man, respected and adored by patients, family and countless friends. He leaves a loving and caring legacy to all and to the medical community of the South Pointe Hospital, a Cleveland Clinic Hospital. Roger will be deeply missed as a beloved husband of almost 40 years to Debra (nee Schweitzer); father to Travis of Cleveland, Ohio, Tegan Zima (husband Will) of Boca Raton, Florida and Tiffany O'Donnell (husband Sean) of Morristown, New Jersey. His greatest joy was spending time together with his family, sailing and fishing with his grandchildren, Dylan, Rowan, River and Elleyna. In addition, he was a loving brother to Janice Copeland, Gregory, D.O. (wife Daria), Gary, D.O. (wife Marybeth), Gail Claris (husband Sylvan), and Brent (wife Katherine); and a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Contributions may be made to the Brentwood Foundation, 30799 Pinetree Rd. #274, Cleveland, OH 44124 and/or The Mute Swan Ministry, 8584 Washington St. #121, Chagrin Falls, OH 44023. I worked with the Classens physicians and Roger Classen while a medical student in the early 1980's. I was in awe of his surgical abilities Because of his strong DO mentorship, I went on to specialize in Neurology, Neuro-oncology and Sleep disorders. Roger Classen, DO was an intelligent man, a physician who loved his patients and a man who was always a class act. May his candle burn brightly! GOD BLESS YOU & YOUR FAMILY during their period of grieving.

My deepest sympathy is extended the Roger Classen family. Dr. Roger was program director throughout my general surgery training at Brentwood Hospital. We shared many experiences, laughs, good times, and heart breaks throughout those years. He was a genuinely caring person, dedicated to his patients and to the success of his surgical residents. I owe much to his nurturing me as a young surgeon. He taught me how to be more than a physician/surgeon. Commitment to leadership enabled him to carry on a family legacy in the footsteps of his father, Dr. Theodore Classen. I will miss my mentor, but cherish his memory and the time we shared together.

A kind man. Met Roger 54 years ago and recently caught up with him and his Shaker buddies in Sarasota. He was excited about his new boat and seeing the grandkids in Boca. Talked about his wife and how they met. He talked about how grateful he was for all the blessings in his life...including his patients.

My deepest sympathy to the Classen family. I hope your many memories help to carry you through this difficult time. Dr. Classen supported me at numerous points during my career, starting with my internal medicine residency at (then) Brentwood hospital. His leadership in surgical education helped to make a difference in the community and his leadership in the foundation helped to transform the medical education department. You were a good role model, Roger. Rest In Peace.

We were former patients of Dr. Classen and we were shocked to learn of his passing. We were about to make appointments to see him when we learned of the sad news. Dr. Classen was our physician for quite some time and he was a down-to-earth person who cared about us as his patients. He was a funny person who always made us laugh during our visits with him. Dr. Classen always uplifted our spirits as our physician. We will miss seeing Dr. Classen, because he was such a pleasant person who was a godsend to us. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the entire Classen Family during this difficult time. God Bless All of You! Rest In Peace, Dr. Classen!

He was my mother's doctor for several years until her passing in 2011. What great man with a loving and beautiful spirit, equal only to that of his wife, Debra, whom I had the privilege to meet and learn of her ministry. Beautiful healers in every sense. I thank God for having had a chance to know him and Debra for a little while. My condolences to the family.

Dr. Classen came out of my mother's cancer surgery went over to me and hugged me and said "we are going to keep your mother around for a long time". He was such a caring, loving, dynamic person that we were absolutely blessed to know. He made my mother laugh when she was fighting her fears of having cancer, he made her feel special and very loved when she needed it. I will always be eternally grateful for everything he has done for us.

I am shocked and saddened by this. Dr Classen was my surgeon during my cancer years. He used to look at my scar and joke about what a great job he did. At one visit for my mammogram, the tech said that my surgeon did a really good job on me. I said that's what he always told me. She said, "But I'm looking at it from the inside. He did a REALLY good job!" He was a blessing. So sorry for your loss

It is still so hard to believe. I have known Dr. Roger for many years as a former Brentwood/South Pointe Hospital nurse. I worked closely with him in the OR and cared for many of his patients. He was dedicated to his patients, his medical students and residents as well as his family. His legacy will always be of compassion to the institution he helped develop along with his father and family. My deepest sympathies to his family. May they be comforted by all the peoples' lives he touched.
