Cruz Godinez

Loveland - Cruz Godinez was born May 3, 1932 to Jesus and Augustina Godinez in Fort Collins, CO. He graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1951. In 1954, he married his first and only love Francesca Vigil; July 2nd would have marked their 66th wedding anniversary. He was a hard worker and enjoyed working at Cedar Plastics, Forney Industries, Benachec Tool and Die, Teledyne Water Pik, Casa Godinez, Spradley-Barr and In-Situ. Cruz retired at the age of 81 as a senior tool and die maker. He was well respected and liked wherever he went.

On June 25, 2020 Cruz passed away quietly at home, where he was cared for by his son for over eight years. Cruz was 88 years old. He was a two-time cancer survivor and battled a lifelong congenital heart defect.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Augustina Godinez; wife, Francesca Vigil-Godinez; and three brothers, Joe, Nick, and Jesse Godinez.

He is survived by his brothers, Willie Godinez and Augie (Rosie) Godinez; his children, Monica (Brent) Pankievich and Tony (Jeanne) Godinez; his grandchildren, Kasha, Brent, Jacob, Alison, Antoinette (Jason); his great grandchildren, Wyatt (Summer), Morgan, Rion, Marisa, Taylor, Dominic and Max; and his great-great grandson, Bentlee.

Cruz enjoyed music and played piano, guitar, concertina, and bongos. In his younger days he enjoyed softball and boxing. Being a southpaw, Cruz was known to his friends as "lefty." To his family, he was grandpa, gramps, compa, or Papi. He also loved his westerns, bowling, dancing, and his grandkids. He will be dearly missed.

A viewing will be held at Resthaven on July 1st from 5-7 pm and July 2nd from 10am-12pm, with services following at Resthaven on July 2nd at noon to honor Cruz Godinez.

There will be a private family interment at a later date.

Grandfather (Compa) as I walked to your old truck in the rain I begin to think of our last time in the truck and was helping you with the house after Grandmother had passed I was painting the outside front for you, we went and had Burger For Lunch and then to the paint store for more paint we talked about life and good times it is a memorable time of many Great moments that we must hold close and live in those moments for They Are Fleeting... My Grandfather was the best athlete of his time and boxing, track, football, no one could touch him or hold a candle to who my Grandfather Was As A All Around Spirit of Prime Creator, Love, Devotion, Hope, Generosity, Good Smile, Good Laugh, Handsome, Cool, Smooth, Smart, Loving, Understanding, A Teacher, A Learner, A Good Listener, Well Organized, Loved His Kids, His Grandchildren, Loved my Grandmother Fran, Loved Work, Loved Family, Loved People, Loved Prime Creator Loved Life, and All that Was Given To Him He Gave Back 110%, I will miss camping and going to the mountains fishing, having fun laughs and Your Grilled food, sandwiches, and Good Times, Gone is Your Flesh But I Know Your Spirit Is Very Much Alive, Up There With Grandmother and other Family and Friends, Must Be Nice to have your Wings back Flying around as a Angel like Tom Cruise, as you used to say using Cruz Control, I was by a River the morning you passed and got the news so I sang you a Honor Song and sang Oglala/Apache Prayer Songs for you and seen a sign of you and Grandmother I seen two big Butterflies dancing together and new it was a sign of you are ok and will Watch Us, All you Love in the Spirit World and here on Earth.. Theres a saying my Wise Grandfather Taught me he had learned and made this saying, He Would Say Chris Always Remember Be Carful Who You Step On Going Up the Ladder Of Life, Cause You Definitely Going To See Them On Your Way Down, Buddy Boy!! Thats was my Wise and Awesome GrandFather with his Oglala name and Apache Name I gave him Red Eagle and another Favorite was Cruzy Bear, which I carved into a Log along that River that same Morning but I Love ❤ and Miss You Compa You Will Always Running Through My LionHeart for Your Blood and DNA Runs Through My Veins Like Buffalo (Tatanka) and Ill Always Keep What I Learned and Loved About You, Ill See You In My Dreams In Meditations and One Day Be Together with All who I Honor and Cherish When The Spirit Horse Comes For Me...
