G. Leon Howell, 88, died in Memphis, TN on February, 26, 2017. He was born in Hamilton, AL on July 10, 1928. He received ths Ph.D. from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, He was on the faculty of the University of Memphis, Department of Biological Sciences, from 1959-1995. For many years, he taught biology, botany, and plant physiology, and was Vice-Chair of the Department. At one point, he served as Interim Chair. Burial took place in the Howell family plot in Hamilton, AL on February 28. The Marion County Funeral Home in Hamilton had charge.

As neighbors of Dr. Howell for 30 plus years and always admired his kindness and intelligence. We have missed him and know his friends and University of Memphis have also.
