Janice "Puzzy" Dawkins
Cordova, TN
Janice "Puzzy" Dawkins, 88, of Memphis, died in peace Wednesday, February 22, 2017. Services will be at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Monday, Feb 27. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., with the funeral service following immediately at 2 p.m.
Janice loved and cared for her husband Gordon for 62 years before his death in 2009. She was blessed with and survived by three children Linda (Chuck) Garrett, Charles (Beverly) Dawkins, and Ava (Al) Neubert. She loved and cared for all of her 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
In the 60's she drew audiences to witness her prowess as a school crossing guard at her alma mater, Treadwell High School. In the 70's, as church hostess at Buntyn Presbyterian Church, she prepared and served dozens of delicious meals for the church family's Wednesday night suppers, which partly define the "good ole days" at Buntyn. In the 80's she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper in the academic research computing center at UTCHS.
Her joy was living a life in service to others. Her greatest regret was not being able to serve others adequately in the last 15 years of her life. She taught by example. Christ was first in her heart and second, the needs of others. Riches she heeded not. Her sweetness belied a Christ-like wisdom. Her love was divine and all excelling. Her love was pure and unbounded. She was a faithful friend, a wife extraordinaire, a mother par excellence. Her legacy is that to attain the most complete joy in life, look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others.
