I met Mr. Wilburn on one occasion many years ago. Both he and Mrs. Wilburn were very kind and gracious. My deepest sympathy to Mrs. Wilburn, Barry and Kelvin. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Eternal rest give unto him O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul Rest In Peace.

Farewell to a legend of great stature and class. When I enrolled at TN A&I in 1957, Jesse had graduated; but his legend was alive and well via student storytellings and endearments. As a freshman, I stayed in the room bearing his name on the door. The legend beheld was that Jesse Wilburn and Percy Hines were the best running backs to ever play at the school or anywhere. I was fortunate to meet Jesse and do business with him in 1968, when I worked for Mahalia Jacksons Chicken Systems. He was a highly respected businessman with a sincere sense of humor and outlook. I introduced myself to his son, Barry years later in D.C.; and I told him how proud I was of him and his mother Margaret who I taught with at Hamilton High School from 1966-1968. God Bless his family, Robert B. Hooks
