Laquita Maxey

Laquita "Joy" Maxey, 84, died at home surrounded by her family on November 16, 2017. She was born in Fairland, Oklahoma, September 16, 1933.
Joy retired from Memphis City Schools, where she was a cafeteria manager at Richland Elementary School and Ridgeway School. She was loved by many children and was still recognized and remembered in their adult years. With a heart of gold, no child every went hungry while she was there.
She was a member of Richland Baptist Church and will be remembered for her beautiful smile and caring heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, William Bo Maxey. Joy leaves six children, Judy Gayhart (Jimmy), Deborah Stewart, Cynthia Elder, William "Billy" Maxey, Lisa Broxton (Robert) and Ralph Maxey (Julie). She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Monday, November 20, with Funeral service to follow at 1 p.m., all at Munford Funeral Home, Munford Chapel. Interment in Helen Crigger Cemetery.
The family requests memorials be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
