Harold Wendell Rushton, M.D., F.A.C.S
AGE: May 9, 1926 - January 11, 2017 •
Dr. Harold Rushton passed away peacefully on January 11, 2017, at his home in Haddonfield, New Jersey with his family by his side. He was born in Haddon Heights NJ, and graduated from Camden Catholic High School and St. Francis College in Pennsylvania. He served in the Army during World War II, then graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1953. After an internship at Cooper Hospital and residencies at Cleveland Clinic and The Graduate Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania, he became the first neurosurgeon to have his practice and office in Southern New Jersey.
Harold's surgical career spanned five decades. He served as Chief of Neurosurgery at Cooper, Our Lady of Lourdes, Underwood and Burlington Memorial Hospitals. He later established Neurosurgical Consultants of Cherry Hill, N.J., partnering later with several other neurosurgeons. He was first to introduce laser surgery at Cooper Hospital and he retired an Honorary Member at all four of the above hospitals.
Harold's dedication to his profession was only outweighed by his love and devotion to his wife of 63 years, Frances, and their seven children. Harold loved gardening, boating, fishing, skiing and golfing. He spent many years enjoying these activities at their home on Thompson Lake in Oxford, Maine.
Dr. Rushton was predeceased by his parents, sister and his daughter Jayne. He is survived by his wife, his brother, John, children David (Debra), Mark (Alla), Christopher (Andreza), Daniel (Sharon), Leslie (Barry), Nan, and son-in-law George. He proudly leaves behind eleven grandchildren, one great grandchild and seven nieces.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 21st, 9:30 to 11:00am at Christ The King Roman Catholic Church, 200 Windsor Avenue, Haddonfield with Mass of Christian Burial to follow.

As an Operating Room nurse at Memorial Hospital since 1980, I was privileged to have known and worked with Dr. Rushton. He was a great surgeon, kind and compassionate as well as a true gentleman to all his patients and their families and with all his interactions with the surgical staff. They don't make surgeons like him any more. It was my honor to have worked with him. My condolences to his family.

Harold was one of the finest physicians, calming surgeons, and nicest men I ever knew. I was proud to know him and practice what used to be the art of medicine with him for my 40 years at Burlington County Memorial Hospital. Now, for a well earned rest - RIP Harold.

To Mrs. Rushton and all the Rushton family, My childhood memories are filled with many happy days spent with your family!
Eating dinner with all around your table, your father's jaguar, your mom making hamburger with eggs for Tilly while she was singing in your kitchen! Slumber parties with Jayne and many happy moments in your beautiful tudor home on Knolltop Lane! And the scar on my leg that your father stitched up so beautifully when I hit the stone wall at the end of Knolltop Lane riding bikes with Jayne. Our love goes out to all of you and our prayers are with you all. Lisa Carroll Archambault and all the Carroll Family.

Condolences to Mrs. Rushton and all of the Rushton family. There are many good memories of Dr. Rushton that have been relived over and over and will continue to be. Just a few: the ringing of the bell that breakfast was ready and then our family showing up ready to eat, the rescue when our rented ski boat motor wouldn't start, and the many times being pulled out of the water on skis with Dr. R at the wheel. Thank you for the memories and good times ! The Kranzley Family, Steven and Stacie Kranzley.
