John Covely made an impression on everyone he met, not because he put himself front and center, but because his actions spoke louder than any words he could say. He didn't need to be the center of attention, he was a good listener. He would hold the door for others and take the worst seat in the room and give it up if necessary. He felt he was put on this earth to serve others and it was a calling he never abandoned, even as he got older. I met Mr. Covely through his daughter Jill when we worked together at Comcast and from the first moment I shook his hand, I knew the man was special. He came to our home and taught us about our horse, Lala and had a special moment with her. LaLa may have been a horse, but she knew a good man when she saw one and knew he understood horses. He gave me a pair of horsehoe hooks that I've installed on my front door and my clothes are hanging there. It was remarkable to me because as we get older, no one give us gifts, so when someone does it is special. The thing Mr. Covely taught me that I will never forget was at Jill and Stephen's house one day. He said, "Don't leave your money to your kids when you die. Give it to them while they are alive so you can enjoy seeing them use it to buy things they need." It was an honor to know and learn from Pop Pop. My heartfelt condolences to Florence, Lynne, Jill and Stephen. Love and prayers, Buck and Steph
