AGE: 82 • Effort
James T. Gender, age 82, of Effort, Pa. passed away on July 8th, 2017. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. and was a longtime resident of Maple Shade before moving to Effort. Jim retired after many years from Ford Motor Co. in Pennsauken. He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1952-1955. Jim was a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, past president of Maple Shade Little League and Director of Recreation in Maple Shade. He was the Treasurer of Sun Valley Fire Co and a member of the VFW and American Legion in Effort, Pa.
Beloved husband of the late Jeannine A. Gender (nee Costic), who passed away on May 2, 2017, and father of the late Cherie Petrino, he is survived by his loving children James Gender, Jr., Jeannine (Dan) Hagan, Mary Jean (Bob) Kneringer and William Gender, his dear siblings Charles (Janet) Gender, Kathleen Gender (Jatinder Mehta) and the late William (Dot) Gender, cherished grandchildren Morgan (Matt) Siepel, Victoria Gender, Teionna Hagan, Meghan and Jazmine Kneringer and Brianna Gender, great grandchild, Keaton Parker Siepel and also many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing and visitation with his family on Thursday July 13th, 6-8 pm and Friday 8:30-9:30 am at the MARK C. TILGHMAN FUNERAL HOME, 38 N. Forklanding Rd., Maple Shade. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday July 14th, 10 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 236 E. Main St., Maple Shade, NJ. Entombment will be in Lakeview Memorial Park. I was saddened to see that Jim had passed, so soon after his beloved wife. I didn't know either of them well, but I have fond memories of how warm and welcoming they were when I first moved to Sun Valley and served on the Board. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
