Edward "Shirl" Goetz
Evansville, Ind.
Edward "Shirl" Goetz, 91, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the Heritage Health Care.
Shirl was born in Evansville, Indiana on December 28, 1926 to the late August Casper Goetz and Marie Terry. He was a Memorial High School graduate. Shirl owned his own business, Shirl's Shell Station, where he worked for 25 years before retiring. He enjoyed NASCAR, horse races, golf, Clabber, music, dancing and working on projects around the house. Shirl was an avid sports fan, with some of his favorite teams being IU, the Cardinals and the Colts. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph Catholic Church and a founding member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
Shirl is survived by his daughters, Diana "Dijie" Duvall (Dennis), Karen Kahre (Steve) and Janice "Jan" Barnes (Tom) all of Evansville, IN; son, Rick Goetz (Trish) of Wadesville, IN; sister, Wanda TenBarge (Tom) of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Rob Miller (Debbie), Jill Cross, Ike Miller, Kelly Martin (Zach), Jennifer Hoffman (Andy), Ben Barnes (Deidre), Katie Karges (Matt), Abbey Goetz, Alec Goetz, Annie Goetz and Audrey Goetz; 17 great-grandchildren; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirl was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Doris Jean (Bowen) Goetz; parents; sister, Edwina Schimmell (Jean); and by infant brother, Billy Jean Goetz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 918 W. Mill Rd., Evansville, IN 47710. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Browning Funeral Home with a memorial service at 6:00 PM.
The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Hospice and Heritage Health Care for all the loving care and compassion shown to Ed "Shirl".

To the children and grandchildren. I am very sadden for your loss. Shirl was a close friend of my dad's. (Jim Alvey). I remember Shirl when I was a little girl.
