Ernestine Christian Graves
Ernestine Christian Graves, 91, of Evansville, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013, at VNA Charlier Hospice Center. She was born February 18, 1922, in Evansville, to the late John and Cannie (Frakes) Christian.
She was one of the original "Rosie the Riveters" and worked at Servel during WW II. She worked at Chrysler during the Korean War, and later worked as a cashier and loan officer at the Evansville Teacher's Federal Credit Union. She served as a member of the Board. After retiring in 1983, she volunteered with many local charities. She received a Neighborhood Sparkplug Award four times and was one of five tri-state "Women of Influence". She was a longtime member of St. James Methodist Church, and more recently, a member of East Side Christian Church.
She was blessed with many splendid friends and neighbors, too numerous to list here. She will miss them greatly.
Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Graves; and her parents.
She is survived by her sons, William and John Graves; son-in-law, Chester Roberts; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Graves; grandchildren, Barbara and William Graves; nephews, Terry (Melissa) Pennell and Robert (Sonja) Pennell; nieces, Karen Graves and Barbara (Tim) Graves Roth; and great nieces and nephews, Miranda, Jamie, Robbie and Terry Lee.
Per Ernestine's request, no viewing or services will be held.
