Rena, Sarah and Phil,
Cecelia and I still haven't fully come to grips with the loss of Larry despite the fact that we remember him in our daily prayers at Mass. He was such a towering personality with such extensive knowledge in so many areas that it's hard to think of anything without remembering something he said or did. Working with him was such a joy. You could always count on him for an honest answer, even when he knew that you might not like what he was going to tell you. That's the kind of colleague that only comes along a time or two, even in a long career. Another distinctive characteristic seldom found was his willingness to effortlessly let bygones be bygones even when disagreements caused decisions that he didn't agree with. And, of course, as I wrote Phil when he advised me of Larry's death, he was as close as anyone I ever met to being a renaissance man. The breadth and depth of his interests and knowledge were breathtaking, and he will long be remembered by those who knew him as a one-of-a-kind personality. If we weren't so far away we would want to share our memories of Larry with you later this week, but that's just not possible. Just know that we are thinking of you and praying that you will find solace in the knowledge that the world is a better place for Larry's long and good life.
