Phyllis was my beloved aunt and a cherished companion and spouse to her husband of 37 years, Professor John Haegert. She was a wise, witty, and compassionate humanist who shared in joy in life and learning with her students and family. Whether teaching me about the angel mounds or relaxing with her family, "Toby" was a generous and loving soul who always made those around her feel comfortable and welcomed. She was a brilliant scholar who loved life and literature and taught me much about both. I will never forget her.
