Thinking about you as your birthday approaches. <3
November 22, 2013
Hey Jack. I just thought I'd say a few things here since I probably knew you as well or better than anyone still alive, and heck, there's little likelihood you'll contradict what I'm writing.
I'm already missing you Jack. Sadly I guess, that's going to be a fixed emotion now. You will be long remembered. You're the big brother who taught me to tie my shoelaces, to spell the word egg, and how to hit a quality sand shot. By example, you taught me, with some success, to never quit.
I think you're the most independent person I've known. Perhaps too much so for your own good at times. You were smart too. But it took me nearly fifty years to realize you were more a hard worker than brilliant. Maybe that's smart too. You were always honest, and skepticism aside, sincere if not tactful. And you rarely lacked for opinion. You could be overly contrary, which at times seemed less from conviction and more for self-entertainment. I suppose I could comment about the good and the bad times with you Jack, but in all honesty, I didn't have bad times. I wouldn't change a minute I've spent with you.
I guess nobody ever truly knows another person, even an older brother. I think you were a good and honorable person and brother. I'll always revere you. I think you lived a sincere and worthy life, and I thank you because I'm a better person for it. I think these things, but I know them in my soul.
So, rest in peace Jack? Not a chance. Nah, that's not quite the right sentiment for you big Jack. You won't rest, and peace would just bore you. Just put your head down and keep on going Jack. Brush up on your game and say hello to the folks. Stay in touch kid. I'll catch up when I can.
