I've had the wonderful pleasure of being introduced to Crystal from Thomas Michael Kappler. I'm the artist who made the little door-hangers gifts for her grandchildren and the two dragon staffs that he gave her on two different Christmases a few years back.

Thomas and I had spoken in great detail via facebook and over the phone about her wonderful surprises, trying so very hard to keep the details away from her. He'd always schedule times to discuss the details with me when she away from the house. To keep her from growing suspicious.

But what proved to be more of a challenge for Thomas, was when the boxes arrived. Just imagine the difficultly Thomas had trying to stash away a 76 inch box and to keep it hidden well enough that she wouldn't find it before Christmas. But he was quite clever to hide the boxes and it worked both times. She loved both of those staffs.

When she and I finally had the chance to speak on the phone, after she opened up her first very large parcel, we spoke on the phone for about 3 hours. We spoke about everything and we were giggling like two giddy school girls. She was absolutely, brilliant fun. Speaking with Crystal was like talking with an old friend; even if it was just the very first time ever speaking her. We spoke many times. I sadly regret never being able to meet with her face to face. But I now take comfort in knowing someday we'll have that opportunity to meet up with each other, face to face and have new stories to tell. :O) She was a beautiful soul and will never be forgotten.

p.s. Her dragon claw staff's image has traveled throughout the internet and been seen all over the world. Currently it's been pinned on 3.4K different Pinterest pages and counting. It's more than any other item carved piece I've ever made. So that staff will always bring a smile to my face being a sweet reminder to me of of her.
Rest in peace my lovely friend.
