I supported Hal McDonnell in quite a few of his endeavors while I was at the Aerospace Corporation and found him to be a fine, honorable man and a fun guy to be around. I only wish I could have enjoyed his company later in life.

Dear Mrs. McDonnell and Family,
I heard of Harold's passing and offer you my sincere condolences. I met Harold while working at Hughes Aircraft under Andy Ott as a systems engineering manager on the first DIRECTV satellite. I left before the launch to work at a Comsat Corporation field office in New Jersey. That office closed three years later in the US defense consolidation, which put me in a bind, a family man with three young children. I was desperate to find a job and even though I hadn't spoken to Harold in three years, he quickly connected me with the Latin American version of DIRECTV, which was called Galaxy Latin America. I got a fantastic job and was able to provide for my family while having a lot of fun learning new things and traveling all over the world, playing my part to start and operate that business. His willingness to help me when I needed it is a testament to his kindness and compassion and stands in stark contrast to many other business leaders I have known. Harold certainly was a good man and will be missed by all who knew him.
