Lonna Maria Calhoun
August 13, 1947- February 26, 2018
We are saddened by the loss of Lonna Maria Calhoun, who passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones. Born in La Habra, she was the eldest of four siblings and many cousins. Lonna was not only beautiful, but also enterprising and innovative, a natural leader who honed this talent throughout her storied life. Ever the entrepreneur, she excelled in all efforts and re-invented herself countless times in her life and careers. She met her husband of 40 years, Sam, while working at the Palos Verdes Health Spa, which he owned. Together, they formed a loving and enduring partnership, running successive businesses and raising a family.
Lonna was committed throughout her life to fitness and health, becoming an international name in Aerobics. She loved to walk the trails of Palos Verdes and San Pedro. She enjoyed community involvement throughout her 39 years living in the South Bay, most recently as co-founder the emergency preparedness nonprofit, COPE-Preparedness.
She was a passionate Leo and eternal optimist; beloved, vibrant, and full of life. Her loss is felt deeply by her many dear friends, three siblings and their spouses (Phillip Baiocchi, Alan and Lisa Baiocchi, Laura and Mark Stratton), and her two children and their spouses (Andrea and Jeff Browning, Carter and Meghan Calhoun). Lonna's proudest chapter was becoming "Nonna" to her grandchildren, Grayson and Claire. She beamed with love and pride at their every milestone. She left us all too soon.
Lonna's Celebration of Life will be held on March 11th at 11AM, at The Plaza and Cabrillo Marina, 2965 Via Cabrillo Marina, San Pedro, 90731. Please sign the guest book, www.dailybreeze.com/obits.

I was honored to be close friends with Lonna for nearly 40 years. We watched our children grow up together.
She encouraged everyone around her to live a healthy lifestyle. I will forever remember my days at Palos Verdes Athletic Club and Peninsula Athletic Club with her. Lonna also possessed a great sense of humor and a positive attitude toward life. Her children Andrea and Carter were her life; and she was most recently overjoyed with being a grandmother. God's Blessings to her family. I will never forget her -- and forever love her very much.

I am happy to say Lonna was a long time friend. We shared a lot of laughs and some tears over the years. Although she faced many challenges in her life, Lonna always faced them with determination and grace and worked through till she got where she needed to be. She was a positive force. My heart goes out to her family. I am one of the many friends who will miss her and be glad I knew her.

I met Lonna and her husband, Sam, many years ago while we were living in the same apartment building. Our children Andrea and Kathren became good friends during that time. We kept in touch for a few years thereafter. I'll never forget the enjoyable weekend we had together when we took the girls for a weekend in Catalina. What an inspiring woman she was. I admired her so very much and I'm so happy that I was fortunate enough to meet and know her, if only for a short time. May she rest in peace. My heartfelt condolences to her entire Family. I will never forget her. Mary Kay Egel

I had the joy of working with Lonna on the emergency preparedness program...COPE! Lonna's leadership, determination, spirit, and goodness excelled. She raised the importance of emergency preparedness to a new level. Lonna's energy and concern for
the common good will be truly missed.
Thank You Lonna!
