Shirley Wilson Obituary

Shirley Ann Wilson

Age 90, passed away June 16 in Pateros, Washington, where she had been living since 2012. Previously, she had been a resident of Redondo Beach for 61 years. She was born November 14, 1924 in Hermosa Beach to Maurice and Clara Landrin, and grew up in Hawthorne. She graduated from Leuzinger High School in 1939, two years ahead of schedule, and then attended Los Angeles City College, and later El Camino College. After the end of WWII, she married Earl Wilson and they later divorced.
Shirley worked outside the home for most of her life. She began a career in office administration at Northrop Corporation in the late '60's and continued there after it became Northrop Grumman. She worked on many projects that helped the United States win the Cold War. She retired as a senior secretary in 1991.
While at Northrop, she joined the Northrop Recreation Club. She enjoyed white water canoeing and cliff climbing. Another favorite pastime during those years was her membership in Toastmasters, and in later years she was an avid member of a bridge group.
Shirley was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church from it's earliest days, and she contributed her time, skill, and talent to it's growth and preservation. Among other works, she was often the lay speaker to the congregation, an attendee at various ecumenical conferences, and an alto voice for the church choir.
Survivors include two daughters and a son, Linda Dark of Camarillo, CA; Melissa Raust of Pateros, WA; and Jon Wilson of Bothell, WA. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a nephew, two nieces, and many cousins.
She was predeceased by her brother, Maurice Landrin, formerly of Eagar, AZ.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 2600 Nelson Avenue, in Redondo Beach on August 8 at 2 pm, reception following. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits

Not sure what to say?

My Aunt Shirley was an amazing graceful lady, I'm so fortunate to be apart of her life. She took the time to stop and say hello when I lived in Kingman, AZ, one of her many road trips traveling alone.

She will always remembered with love.

What a sweet woman Shirley was. I had the pleasure of singing with her in the church choir at St. Pauls, until our family moved to South Carolina. I had no idea she was as old as she was, she had a much younger soul and spirit. I will always remember her fondly. Rest in peace, Shirley, at the Lord's side where you belong.
