April 16, 1947 - Feb. 26, 2018 Woodland Kathleen Ann Waterstraat died Feb. 26, after a short and unexpected illness. Kathy worked for decades in food service at Purdue University, especially in Tarkington Hall, where she counted many students and staff members as her friends. In the last decade of her life, Kathy moved to California to be near family, where she sang in the choir at St. James Church in Davis and made many friends at the Californian in Woodland. Kathy was simply one of the happiest people you could ever meet. She was always very positive about life. She made friends easily and was deeply loyal. She loved the Purdue Boilermakers she was a faithful fan at the home games when she lived in Lafayette, and nothing could tear her away from the television when the games were on in California. She loved her family, her friends, her church and her teams. She will be deeply missed. Kathy was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her sister Pamela. She is survived by her brother, Paul and his family, Judi, Christopher, Stefan, Nick and Shavon, as well as by her many fond cousins. Service on Tuesday, March 6. Hi Paul, I started thinking about Kathy today, so I looked her up only to find she had passed several years ago. I also read that your parents have also passed and I'm so sorry for your losses. My parents passed away too. My brother Mark is in final stages of dementia and my brother Emil has Parkinsons but is doing very well. I am doing well too. I am married and have 4 kids, 10 grandkids and 2 great-grandkids. I hope this message finds you happy and well also. You don't have to respond. I just wanted you to know I think about Kathy, Pam, your parents and you every so often. Your parents and sisters were good people. Take care. Elly Hackeman (Eleanor Szatkowski)

I worked with Kathy at Tarkington Hall at Purdue. She had a positive attitude and rarely missed a day of work, even in a snowstorm; she was a devoted employee who enjoyed being at work. She will be missed.
